Cosmetic Dentistry and Tooth Whitening
More and more people nowadays are into cosmetic dentistry procedures especially tooth whitening. Tooth Whitening is the process of whitening or bleaching the teeth. Back in the old days, it was done by using baking soda, which is still actually recommended by some dentists to maintain good gums and to prevent stained teeth. Today, there are several ways to whiten teeth.
First is by using home kits which can be bought over the counter or can be provided by a dentist. These home kits usually contain gels and strips. Teeth whitening pastes are used around 2-3 times a day. The gels and strips are used overnight or for several hours during the day for about a month.
Second is by visiting the dentist. It is the fastest and safest way to whiten your teeth. Instead of waiting a month to get results, you can just visit your dentist and sit on a chair for around 40 minutes per session for several times and you’re done. Gels will be used as well but they are applied with heat treatments or laser bleaching. This will give you great results fast and the effect will last longer than any other ways of tooth whitening. Also, there’s no follow up treatment required afterwards.
Last is by using teeth whitening toothpaste. This has been proven to work. However, this also depends on the bearer of the teeth if he or she is eager to work for his or her own tooth whitening. I mean, teeth whitening toothpaste does work, but so should you.
Why are there many people into tooth whitening? Well, most people want to keep their teeth white and shiny because stained teeth look ugly and can affect overall appearance and personality. There are many reasons why teeth lose their whiteness. One, there are people who are just unlucky to be born with it. It depends on the genes. Smoking, coffee, medications, and even soft drinks can cause stains. Aging can also cause teeth to get dark.
Teeth whitening can be the best thing that can happen to people with stained teeth, we also need to know that it has some restrictions and warnings as well. First, it is not recommended during pregnancy and breastfeeding and prolonged bleaching can lead to severe irritation in the teeth and gums.
Some people who use Teeth whitening products at home do not pay much attention to the correct usage. You need to follow the correct procedures on how to use these products. These teeth whitening products are harmless unless used incorrectly. So before you start any procedure on whitening your teeth, make sure you get as much information as you can to make sure you do it right. GP
