Good thing there are a lot of cosmetic dentistry orthodontics procedures so that our teeth can be straightened and look attractive. It’s not only about the look, but some conditions make it hard to eat, digest, and even clean our teeth.

A man by the name of Dr. Edward H. Angle is known as the “Father of Modern Orthodontics. He was the first dentist to ever focus on orthodontics only and thus making him the first orthodontist. He saw the importance of specializing in cosmetic dentistry orthodontics. Here are some of the methods that orthodontists employ to correct improper bites and other conditions.

Cosmetic dentistry orthodontics: braces

This is one of the most common orthodontic devices. You would usually relate them to adolescents and are made of steel or ceramic material. The time in which the patients have to wear them vary depending on how bad their conditions are. After the period in which they have to wear the braces, patients are usually prescribed to wear retainers for maintenance. It can be a hassle to some but at least they are removable.

Cosmetic dentistry orthodontics: Invisalign

An alternative to getting braces is the newly developed Invisalign. They typically look like the mouth guard worn by people having problems with night grinding. What’s great about this is that they are transparent and discreet, which is the reason why adults would prefer them over braces. Another good thing about Invisalign is that they are removable and are usually taken out when eating, drinking. This could be considered somewhat of a double-edged sword since you are not wearing them all the time.

There are a number of conditions that orthodontics methods are used to correct a dental crisis. One of them is crowded teeth. What they would to is to correct this by using braces, or by removing some of the teeth so that they are able to create sufficient room for the others.

Some other conditions such as over-bite and an under-bite are treated with braces as well and depending on how serious the condition is, some would even require wearing head gear (something which is the dread of all adolescents).

It’s a wonderful thing that there are a lot of advancements in orthodontics that we can all enjoy. It may seem quite awkward wearing them at first but it would be all worth it. GP

There are things in life that we have to go through. One of them is getting dental surgery. These dental procedures are often feared by a lot of people because of the pain that is involved. What they should keep in mind is that this is for the benefit of their health, and that certain conditions would pose short to long term effects if they are left unchecked. One of the procedures that are most feared is cosmetic dentistry “bone grafts”.

Bone grafts are done whenever there isn’t much bone density in the jaw. It is important especially if you want to get implants. You are not qualified to get implants if you do not have enough bone density because the implant won’t fit well and would come out really ugly. What dental surgeons do is to replace the missing bone by getting bone from another part of your body, or use artificial replacements.

The Reason for Cosmetic Dentistry “Bone Grafts”

There are a lot of different procedures that would call for the need of bone grafts. Dentistry in particular would fill the need of replacing a missing permanent tooth. Another common bone graft in dentistry is called the fibular shaft.

Types of Cosmetic Dentistry “Bone Grafts”

There are a number of places which dentists choose to take bone from. They could choose from the following:

• Bone in a bottle- This type of graft is prepared from bones of cadavers. This means that the dentist would no longer need to get bone from the patient to lessen the pain involved.

• Barrier Membrane Technique- What they do is place membranes on certain areas so that tissue that we do not want won’t grow there. This is done so that the growth of cells and tissue are normal and healthy.

• Areas from outside the mouth- there are some extreme cases which the dentist would have to remove bone from outside the mouth. They would usually take out bone from the hip.

Why cosmetic dentistry “bone grafts” are feared

Of course, it may seem like an extremely painful procedure. The truth is that it really isn’t as bad as some people may think. There are movies, book, and videos that exaggerate the pain involved with this procedure and this is the reason why people fear it the most.

Patients are given anesthetics so you wouldn’t feel any pain or discomfort. You are given the option to get nitrous oxide, general anesthesia, or be completely sedated. The thing is that the lesser the drugs, the better but if you want to be sedated then its fine. GP

It may be attributed to the uncomfortable feeling of having all these steel instruments probing your mouth. There are a lot of procedures that people may find scary and one of them is cosmetic dentistry “root canals”. The need for getting a root canal strikes fear in the hearts of even some of the toughest people around. It has been described by many as a painful procedure and the exaggerated depictions of some movies don’t help a bit. The thing is that root canals are very important and you cannot skip them if ever you are in need of such a procedure.

Importance of cosmetic dentistry “root canals”

There are main canals within the dentin of a tooth and there are times that they become infected. Bacteria sometimes are able to invade the insides of your tooth because of tooth fractures. They would cause infections and inflammations, which could spread to the whole jaw if it is left untreated. The way to treat this is through endodontic therapy, which is more popularly known as root canals.

Getting cosmetic dentistry “root canals”

Also known as Endodontic therapy, root canals are done when the tooth is threatened by tooth decay, bacteria, and cracking. There are several steps that are included when this procedure is done:

1. The dentist would drill right into the pulp chamber
2. He or she will scrape out the infected pulp
3. The dentist puts filling to seal the tooth’s opening and avoid future infection

The material they use as filling is called “gutter-percha”. It is an isoprene that is a natural polymer. What they do is that they would melt it and inject it right into the root canal passages. For clear x-rays, barium is added to the isoprene.

Preparing for cosmetic dentistry “root canals”

It’s perfectly understandable if you hesitant to get this particular procedure. Since you already know its importance, then you already know that you have to get it. You should be able to psych yourself before the procedure if you are fearful. Another thing is that you are given an option like getting nitrous oxide so that you don’t feel too much pain, or you may choose to be completely sedated. GP

It is known that the way we look affect the way we feel about ourselves. The better we look, the more confidence we have in ourselves. This is important especially if you are trying to impress people at work. One of the most important features that we can improve on is our teeth.

Not everyone is born with a perfect set of teeth. This is why some of us do need braces, and other dental contraptions. Some people are quite conscious about the way they look with these contraptions and could be the reason why they shy away from getting them. There are people that start out with perfectly straight teeth but destroy them because of certain conditions such as night grinding. Good news: there is such a thing as cosmetic dentistry invisalign.

What is invisalign?

Cosmetic dentistry invisalign are transparent teeth aligners. They look like the mouth guards made for people that have a problem with night grinding. Invisalign has been used as an alternative for braces and a lot of doctors are already trained to give out invisalign treatment to their patients.

What are the advantages of cosmetic dentistry invisalign?

Since a lot of patients are very conscious about the way that braces look, the transparency of invisalign makes it a bit more discreet. This is very popular amongst adults since they feel like braces are for growing teens and don’t really look good on them. What’s great is that it is also removable so it doesn’t have to be in your mouth all the time. They are usually taken off when eating, brushing teeth, and drinking.

Since they are removable, it is a lot easier to eat compared to when you are wearing braces. Other patients find that invisalign treatment is a lot more comfortable than conventional braces. It is also said that invisalign aligns teeth a lot faster than other methods but of course results may vary from one another depending on the patient.

Cosmetic dentistry invisalign is also used to avoid some of the bad effects of fixed appliances such as braces. For some people, fixed appliances cause shortening of the roots of their teeth. Other disadvantages of fixed appliances include:

• restricting x-rays
• demineralization
• tooth decay

All these things may happen to patients, but of course it is a case to case basis. The protocol of getting an invisalign procedure would require you to get computerized treatment planning. The reason for this is so that the patient would know how long the treatment would take, to have an idea of the projected smile design, and be able to judge whether he or she would like to go through with invisalign. GP

The most common problem that requires teeth restoration involves crooked or damaged teeth. Dental professionals use the term overbite to refer to some of these conditions. Corrective options for these cases could vary from cosmetic restorative dentistry to the use of braces.

According to an in-house dentist online, these problems are entirely correctible if not easy to repair. These could be done through restorative procedures, orthodontics or a combination of both. They also recommend a specific treatment plan to adhere to which involves the use of veneers and dental implants.

Dental veneers are largely beneficial in the long run. They are ultra-thin custom-designed porcelain or resin shells bonded to the front of the teeth to improve the patient’s smile and appearance. They involve invasive procedures which require drilling into the tooth structure. Dental implants, on the other hand, are used to replace missing teeth or replace bad and wobbly dentures.

Modern cosmetic restorative dentistry is designed to repair broken, worn down or chipped teeth as a means to give confidence to flash a bright smile. Restorative dentistry is a good way to boost a person’s self esteem in more ways the one. For one thing, no amount of make up can cover the fact that a person has a bad set of teeth.

It is not only visually unappealing but decayed teeth can be a cause of bad breath or halitosis. Bad breath cannot be remedied with the use of antiseptic mouth wash. Mouth washes only temporarily cover the symptoms but do not eliminate the cause of bad breath. This is because odor-causing bacteria which live deep within a damaged tooth cannot be destroyed with a topical rinse but can only be removed through proper dental repair.

Modern procedures in cosmetic restorative dentistry also include teeth whitening or bleaching. Bleaching, however, is a bit riskier than one would think. It is not accomplished by purchasing a ready-made do-it-yourself teeth whitening formula over the counter.

You cannot and must not believe everything the advertisers say and any professional dentist would advice you not to be persuaded by them. What most people do not know is that instant teeth whiteners can be unhealthy and can cause irreversible damage to the teeth and jaw structures over time.

There is no one standard to determine the right shade of tooth whiteness in each individual. A person with healthy teeth can have the right shade of white that can differ with the next person with similar healthy teeth. It all boils down to genetics.

Since cosmetic restorative dentistry is not covered by a normal health card, a person who would want to undergo a restorative dental procedure may have to invest on cosmetic dentistry financing to manage costs. GP
